Brandeis Kiva Group

Did you know we had a Kiva.org group set up for Brandeis University? You can join here.

Kiva.org is an easy online way to give out international, no-interest microloans. Here’s an excerpt from their about page:

We Let You Loan to the Working Poor

Kiva’s mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty.

Kiva is the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world.

The people you see on Kiva’s site are real individuals in need of funding – not marketing material. When you browse entrepreneurs’ profiles on the site, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan, you are helping a real person make great strides towards economic independence and improve life for themselves, their family, and their community. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates and track repayments. Then, when you get your loan money back, you can relend to someone else in need.

  1. Hi,
I'm a freshman at Brandeis this year, and I did a lot with KIVA in high school but I haven't seen anythign on campus! I realize these posts are a couple years old, so I don't know if you will see this, but I can't find any other way to contact the starters of the KIVA Brandeis team. I was wondering if anything was done on the campus to promote KIVA, and why a team was started at Brandeis, like for a class or just for fun? If anyone had any desire to reply or talk I would love the input.
    Thanks!
    Rebecca

  2. I just graduated brandeis and was wondering if you guys could find someone at brandeis who would like to be a captain of the brandeis lending team and promote the group. It would help if you guys maybe made a new post. We only 31 members but I know many more people at brandeis use kiva so we could really use some promotion.

  3. I started the team a week or two ago. Thanks for publicizing it! If you know of people from Brandeis who are already on kiva.org but not in the team let me know and I’ll invite them.
