Liveblog snark edition

We’re liveblogging the trial now – snark edition.

Livebloggers – Alex Norris, Matt Kupfer, Jon Muchin, and myself. We’ll be blogging in the comments.

This is a project unaffiliated with the petitioners, defense, judges, or whatever. We’re just providing an alternative, hopefully more hilarious liveblog here.

Check out Emily Dunning’s liveblog below for the “official Innermost Parts take”.

OK, so the petitioners (UJ-speak for prosecution) keep bringing up this claim that Lev and Alex didn’t recuse themselves when they brought up the SMR, and that its wrong, since they happen to be members of DFA. This line of reasoning is wrong. Lev and Alex are the Senators of the class of 2011 and represent the entire class. They were elected on a platform of, in part, supporting such events, and their votes are public. The Ayers event is open to the entire campus, and it’s entirely appropriate for the Senators representing Twenty Five Percent of the student body to have a say in that event.

Asking Lev or Alex to recuse themselves in these sorts of votes is like asking Ted Kennedy to recuse himself on Universal Healthcare votes because he has cancer.

  1. Alex Melman: “Bill Ayers was actually paying us $200.” At last, the truth is out! Which building did he want you to blow up?

  2. Alex gets the gavel for sarcastically remarking “yes Bill Ayers is actually paying us”

  3. Are you aware that our meetings follow Roberts rules of order? “What are Roberts rules of order.” I’ll take that as a no.

  4. I think we should write the dates of all of these meetings on the whiteboard. Might as well make the fact that we hold judicial proceedings in a classroom an advantage.

  5. Apparently we are talking about two meetings, and Eric is asking Supreetha whether she is sure about anything. Can one believe the evidence of one’s own senses?

  6. gavel action. WHAT MEETING ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? the officers and the defendants ask.

  7. Eric: “Was the text of the resolution ever brought to the social justice committee to include in the resolution?”

  8. Andrew Brooks… still a douche.

Similar to the back-seat driver phenomenon, Brooks has utilized the back-court witness technique. Bravo.

  9. did you have “some possible role”? have you ever possibly potentially hypothetically thought to youself, “hmm ayers seems like a nice guy, let’s invite him to lunch”

  10. Also, apparently Andrew Brooks wasn’t there for the whole meeting he is an expert on. Is he still an expert? If a tree falls in the forest and Andrew Brooks doesn’t hear it, is he an expert on whether it makes a sound?

  11. I appreciate that the defendants are finally getting in their fair share of objections.

  12. Motion to take this with a grain of salt? Also a motion for a dash of paprika.

  13. Did you take on any work or commitment for the Ayers event. “No, I got really busy.” Eric Alterman is setting up his case that no one cared about the event ’cause they had shit to do.

  14. This whole room is racist. Why is everyone calling this Ayers event, and not ever the “Robert King” event, or “Ayers and King” event?

    Clearly, racist.

  15. can i have a nametag “blonde girl with laptop” it seems to be my role at this Uniony type charades.

  16. I gave a “pretty good speech” guys. I might add that Supreetha’s comments during that meeting were also very intelligent.

  17. We set the stage: 2/12/09, social justice committee. People were interested, having a good time and then…move to another topic.

  18. “everyone come to vagina monologues. You can scream cunt too!” says Liza as she exits the witness stand.

  19. Jamie and co. seem to be trying to make a big deal that Lev is on the Social Justice Committee:

“Lev is doing his job as both committee chair and e-board member of DFA. This is corrupt. Obv.”

  20. here here all collaboration starts w/ talking. thank you for pointing that out to the justices Liza.

  21. do we think the court will get happier as food pour into bellies? Also I think this bring up the very intellectual question of dual/multiple identities within a single person….(ponder hmmm)

  22. Jamie is pissed, because Liza talks to much without giving him slip ups to seize upon. This isn’t the way it works in the movies.

  23. So the jist of what’s going on is this: Liza testifies that
    a. the Social Justice Committee of the Student Union is involved.
    b. There’s still plenty of planning going on.

  24. Justice Julia: “Can we maintain a level of seriousness? I think it makes things move quicker”

Really? That’s the lesson we’ve gleaned from this trial so far?

  25. Nippun objects. Blanks for a bit. Seems to forget why. Wait, wait. He’s got it! He’s objecting on grounds that his testimony regarding the social justice committee is better!

Liza responds instead of council. Shuts him down.

  26. Liza is making a mockery of the courtroom. Which is actually a room in a language building. Which pretty much speaks for itself as far as mockeries go.

  27. Nipun: Objection: I haven’t made an objection for a long time and I hate sitting down.

  28. Strangely enough, the only thing this line of questioning makes me think is whether or not we ordered drinks with that pizza.

  29. While Liza is up on the stand, might as well plug the Vagina Monologues – one more performance, tonight at 8, Shapiro Theater! You’ll laugh! You’ll cry! Bring your parents!

  30. Annie went on as a witness and down again in like 5 minutes.

    what efficiency.

There was some sort of confrontation about precedent as it regards to constitutionality or not. Ask Ryan, I don’t understand.

  31. Jamie Ansorge doesn’t want Senators to sit around waiting for petitioners, eating grapes peeled with the teeth of students.

  32. Prospect Hill is being invoked. I’m sure someone knows what is going on here. Apparently the Union’s major involvement was funding, making it a “second f-board”….DUN DUN DUN.

  33. This is now a talk show. “Hi, my name is Annie, I’m a Sophomore.” It’s ok Annie, we’re sophomores too.
