Liveblog snark edition

We’re liveblogging the trial now – snark edition.

Livebloggers – Alex Norris, Matt Kupfer, Jon Muchin, and myself. We’ll be blogging in the comments.

This is a project unaffiliated with the petitioners, defense, judges, or whatever. We’re just providing an alternative, hopefully more hilarious liveblog here.

Check out Emily Dunning’s liveblog below for the “official Innermost Parts take”.

OK, so the petitioners (UJ-speak for prosecution) keep bringing up this claim that Lev and Alex didn’t recuse themselves when they brought up the SMR, and that its wrong, since they happen to be members of DFA. This line of reasoning is wrong. Lev and Alex are the Senators of the class of 2011 and represent the entire class. They were elected on a platform of, in part, supporting such events, and their votes are public. The Ayers event is open to the entire campus, and it’s entirely appropriate for the Senators representing Twenty Five Percent of the student body to have a say in that event.

Asking Lev or Alex to recuse themselves in these sorts of votes is like asking Ted Kennedy to recuse himself on Universal Healthcare votes because he has cancer.

  1. I would like to welcome Jullian! (photo editor for the Justice) The sound effect of “flash flash” adds nicely to the environment.

  2. now Nipun seems confused. 1+$400+this crazy fiasco= not enough money for Ayers 🙁

  3. Nipun: Do you know of any money handling by DFA?

What does he think – DFA’s members are JEWS?

  4. the witness is making sense, and making good points, this isn’t as interesting as when we had confused witnesses. God dang it Melman, why do you have to be coherent?!

  5. Chief Justice Rachel has to remind her co-justice not to argue with witnesses.

  6. Justice Judah asks spectators to remain quiet. He seems to think we’re in a court of justice, NOT a Roman coliseum

  7. Melman is discussing the strange concept of addressing constituent concerns. “Wait, you mean we aren’t in the Senate to pass bylaws about ourselves?”

  8. maybe we shouldn’t be making former terrorists angry…perhaps Ayer’s past self will blow up the Justice Brandeis statue

  9. The DFA and the Senate are completely intertwined if you believe in the unity of all things.

  10. this is quite a beautifully articulated monologue on Alex’s part….just as a type this Rachel cuts Melman off

  11. Alex explains his decision not to recuse himself by very carefully detailing the difference between a senator and an F-board member.

  12. Melman explains his reason for not recusing himself. Which he already explained to the senate on the night that the SMR in question was passed.

  13. Alex Melman was going to recuse himself, but then he realized that bias is part of the legislative process.

  14. seriously? seriously? if I take it from her and hit her over the head it’s not personal. it’s just bothering this part of the court room.

  15. Just a quick note to the lovely Justice Rachel for fronting the money for pizza!

  16. can i take that gavel away from her? it’s hurting my ears which are sensitive from Boatcar’s demo release.

  17. The Chief Justice put the money out for the pizza today. Now you need to pay her.

  18. Yes, that seems an accurate summary of the prosecutors’ argument. HOLD ON WE NEED TO BE ORDERLY ABOUT PIZZA DISTRIBUTION!

  19. Judah is very interested in this case. But the pizza is here and we need to work this out.

  20. Jamie’s argument seems to be that the Social Justice Committee wasn’t fully involved in the event per his specifications by the time he wanted it to be.

  21. I think Jamie just got an answer he didn’t want. Court is taking a break for pizza.

  22. Kay – advocates for student rights and such. Their forum concerned student rights in police encounters.

  23. Have I mentioned how lovely Justice Judah’s stubble looks against his suit? Very jurisprudencial.

  24. I’m not aware of this club “The Advocates” what are they advocates of exactly?

  25. Meryl Schullman (possibly sp) takes the stand. She isn’t a member of DFA, so is free of this circle of corruption.

  26. “Are you involved in DFA?!” are you part of this ridiculous mafia of leftists?!

  27. Just a side nope– I hope Ayers brings Bernadine with him, assuming all these attempts to financially strangle the project end.

  28. “it was regarding me and Akash’s involvement” you mean Akash and my involvement tut tut

  29. Eric seems to have just asked whether Supreetha knows if Alex and Lev are financially benefitting from Ayers. How would she know about DFA’s backroom dealings? I’ve said too much….
